Moravian Falls Fire Department is a volunteer fire department dedicated to duty and service to the roughly 2,500 citizen’s to whom it protects. Founded in 1958, the department serves the community of Moravian Falls and surrounding communities of unincorporated Wilkes County.

25 YEARS LATER — WE STILL REMEMBER. 🇺🇸🚒
Twenty-five years.
A quarter of a century has passed since the morning of September 11, 2001, yet for the fire service, the words “Never Forget” have never been just a phrase. They are a promise.
A promise to remember the 343 firefighters who answered their final alarm that morning. They put on their gear, climbed aboard their apparatus, and responded just as firefighters do every day—never knowing it would be their last call. While thousands were desperately trying to escape, they were climbing upward and moving toward the danger, because there were people who needed them.
They were firefighters, but beneath the helmets and turnout gear, they were so much more.
They were brothers and sisters. Husbands and wives. Fathers and mothers. Sons and daughters. Grandsons and granddaughters. Aunts and uncles. Cousins, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
They were people who were loved.
For 25 years, families have lived without their voices, their laughter, their hugs, and their presence around the dinner table. Children grew up without parents. Parents grew older without their children. Spouses continued through life without the person they thought would always be beside them. Firehouses continued answering calls while carrying the memories of brothers who never returned.
And still, we remember.
We remember the 343 who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. We remember the police officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, military members, civilians, and every person whose life was taken or forever changed. We remember those who survived, those who searched through the rubble, and the countless first responders who later became sick or lost their lives because of their service at Ground Zero.
The fire service is a family. The names on those memorial walls may belong to departments hundreds of miles away, but they are still our brothers and sisters.
So, 25 years later, we pause.
We remember their names.
We remember their courage.
We remember their sacrifice.
We remember the families they left behind.
And we make the same promise today that we made all those years ago:
We will never forget.
From all of us at Moravian Falls Fire Department, Station 28, we honor the fallen, their families, the survivors, and every life forever changed by September 11th.
